Mike Hagen opens up a whole new world to those photographers who are already well versed in photography, but may not have a clue about flash photography.

With the new and rapidly evolving technology, flash photography (especially advanced light modeling with modern iTTL flash systems) has become an art in itself and should be mastered by all aspiring photographers-amateurs as well as professionals-who are often helpless when it comes to using the full potential of these systems.

Using a simple, step-by-step method for setting up and using the newest Nikon iTTL flash units, Mike teaches all the steps required to achieve consistent and amazing flash photos. He solves the common frustrations associated with flash and teaches readers how to use the SB-500, SB-600, SB-700, SB-800, SB-900, SB-910, and R1C1 strobes. Also included is a chapter showing system configuration so readers can duplicate the desired results on their own.

Beginning at a basic level and progressing to more advanced techniques, Mike teaches you everything you need to know about mastering Nikon's iTTL flash system.

The Nikon Creative Lighting System 3rd Edition Using the SB500 SB600 SB700 SB800 SB900 SB910 and R1C1 Flashes edition by Mike Hagen Arts Photography eBooks

This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to master use of Nikon flashes--for both beginners to experienced users like me. Mike Hagen writes clearly about things that Nikon never explains or explaines in technical language that most of us cannot understand. I have a couple of otehr books on Nikon flashes but this one is the best I hav e ever read and it is easy to use as a reference guide. .

The Nikon Creative Lighting System 3rd Edition Using the SB500 SB600 SB700 SB800 SB900 SB910 and R1C1 Flashes edition by Mike Hagen Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

After reading this book it was the first time that I really understood the Nikon CLS and now will be using it more as a addition to my landscape work particularly, in the early morning & late evening light, to add fill-in to the images. I strongly recommend this for anyone that is/or has benn confused about how the Nikon CLS works and how to use it.
Pretty good stuff. Very useful knowledge that you might not just stumble upon by yourself-- and I've stumbled a lot... Covers a large number of Nikon flashes, so about half the book was of no use to me because I only have a single.SB-900. This is much more a technical guide than a creative one; that said, I'd say start with the nuts and bolts.
I received this book yesterday. Over the past couple of years I have bought and read two other books on the Nikon CLS system. This is BY FAR the best book on this subject. I learned more in the first hour or so with this book then anything else I have read. Everything is explained in a concise and easy to understand way , very well done!!!
This is a very useful book for one learning how to best approach flash photography. There are many online classes, but one can't reference them when in the field. This is a great source. I just wish it addressed Nikon's newest flash, the SB5000. It is really a much different animal, particularly when paired with a D850 or a Z6 or Z7. The book needs an update, but is a good basic reference.
I purchased this guide so I could learn all about an SB-700 I purchased for use with a Nikon D750. I have been away from SLR camera shooting for over a decade and am like a newbie coming back to it. This e-book has some very good information with clear and easy to understand instructions on all the features and uses of the flash. A good read for beginners and has some good tips for more advanced shooters, but it is not geared for the those that already have a grasp of the uses of mounted and remote flash photography.
Nikon CLS is pretty easy once you understand it, but can be tough trying to figure out on your own. Mike Hagen does a great job explaining how to get started and some more complex issues. I wish Mike had more time to write books like this but his job with Nikonians must keep him pretty busy. If you want to learn Nikon CLS then this is the book to do it.
I've been trying to improve on my flash photography skills for some time but was having trouble getting clear information on how my two Nikon speed lights worked with my camera. This book is excellent. It is clearly written and organized so that I was able to read the portions that pertained to my camera and speed light (Nikon D750 and SB800 and SB28) and learn what works and how it works in a clear way. It works great as a reference to return to or as a read through. I also found it helpful as I can look at the other speed lights Nikon offers and clearly see what they do and don't do in case I want to add to my kit.
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to master use of Nikon flashes--for both beginners to experienced users like me. Mike Hagen writes clearly about things that Nikon never explains or explaines in technical language that most of us cannot understand. I have a couple of otehr books on Nikon flashes but this one is the best I hav e ever read and it is easy to use as a reference guide. .
